School backs down in wireless flap
"Administrators at the University of Texas at Dallas are drafting a new plan
to combat widespread interference across the school's wireless network
after complaints that their original proposal--which prohibited students and
others from setting up certain types of private "hot spots" in campus
dormitories--ran afoul of Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
regulations."

and shareholders live and work. Support is provided to organizations and
institutions that promote economic self-sufficiency through financial
education and workforce initiatives. Nonprofit organizations in communities
where the company operates, including communities in the states of
Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, New York, Ohio,
Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington, are eligible to apply. Applications are
accepted throughout the year."

FOCUS ON CHILD CARE AND EARLY EDUCATION

"Rosie's For All Kids Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations
throughout the U.S. that provide childcare, early education, and other
essential programs to economically disadvantaged and at-risk children. The
Foundation's primary mission is to support center-based, licensed childcare
and preschool programs for children growing up in low-income, urban
neighborhoods. Other areas of support include education, after-school
programs, and literacy programs. To a lesser extent the Foundation funds
emergency assistance, crisis intervention, and cultural development
programs. Applications are accepted throughout the year."

2005 Youth Visions Grant Opportunity

CTCNet has announced the 2005 Youth Visions for Stronger Neighborhoods
Grants program! "Youth Visions Grants, www.ctcnet.org/youthvisions, are
designed to give youth and community technology programs the
opportunity to use multimedia tools and training to engage in community
decision-making to strengthen their neighborhoods. Organizations that
serve at-risk youth (ages 14-18) and who have experience providing video
and other multimedia training are eligible."

Two stories by eSchool News discuss a report released on September 30.
One (Alliance) is about the report and the other (CoSN) a response to the
report. "The report, called "Tech Tonic" and released by the nonprofit
Alliance for Childhood, claims there is little evidence of long-term benefits
from using computers in schools."
