Girls Communicating Career Connections (GC3)

The Girls Communicating Career Connections (GC3) project is a youth-produced, Web-based media series and companion educator materials on science and engineering careers targeting girls from underserved groups (minority populations, youth of low socioeconomic status and those with disabilities).  GC3's media series—short video segments produced by middle school aged girls—captures the inquiry-based learning experiences of six girls, as they investigate what it means to be a scientist or engineer. The videos encourage girls to see the science in their everyday lives, its relevance to things most important to them now (e.g., sports, art, music), and leverage that connection to spark interest in, and knowledge of, science and engineering careers. EDC has also developed a robust GC3 companion Educator Web site and supporting materials for formal and informal educators.

YouthLearn was involved in the design of the project as well as the development of the curriculum and the coaching of the youth producers.  GC3 partners include the Young Women's Leadership Charter School and Spy Hop Productions.  GC3 is funded by the Gender in Science and Engineering (GSE) program from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
