Research and Strategies for Engaging African American and Latino Families in Informal STEM Education

This is an archive of a webinar hosted by EDC's Learning Resource Center for the NSF-funded ITEST (Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers) program. On this webinar, presenters shared strategies to meaningfully engage families in STEM activities in informal learning environments to promote student learning, and how to measure that family engagement. The goals were to: a) discuss what is meant by effective family involvement in STEM education, b) identify effective strategies for different communities, and c) share methods and results on measuring family engagement. Presenters focused their strategies on how to engage underrepresented groups, with a focus on Latino and African American families.
