Sample Job Description

The following is a sample job description you can modify and use when looking for a Technology Learning Program Director or similar position for your organization. A sample job description is also available for a Youth Development Director.


Position Title
Director, Technology Learning Program

Organization

Position Summary

The Technology Learning Program Director is responsible for the development and ongoing operation of the learning center's educational programs and facilities.

Responsibilities

1. Manages the design and implementation of structured educational programs that incorporate technology into learning. This includes:

  • Developing lesson and project plans
  • Acquiring and preparing instructional materials
  • Recruiting and placing children into class groups
  • Scheduling classes
  • Communicating with parents and families (through phone, written communications, in-person)
  • Tracking attendance
  • Documenting class activities and projects
  • Managing staff, as appropriate, to ensure effective development and coordination of all of the above

2. Serves as lead instructor for school age children's technology-enriched educational programs. This includes:

  • Teaching classes
  • Trouble-shooting software and hardware problems during classes
  • Working with staff to handle interventions needed to address children's medical, behavioral or family crisis issues that arise during classes

3. Works with the Youth Development Director to manage technical development and maintenance of the technology learning center. This includes:

  • Selecting and purchasing hardware and software
  • Selecting and purchasing instructional materials and other learning resources
  • Organizing storage and retrieval of children's electronic files
  • Identifying network upgrade and repair needs
  • Maintaining a clean and safe physical environment

4. Assists Youth Development Director with grant proposals, site visits with funders and other funds development activity as appropriate

5. Assists in the recruitment and management of other instructional staff, mentors and volunteers to support teaching and program development activity

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent leadership, management and communication skills
  • Strong commitment to youth and a strong belief in their potential
  • Teaching experience in a nonprofit or K-12 setting
  • Experience in designing and implementing creative learning programs
  • Experience with the application of interactive communications to educational programs
  • Experience with the application of computer technologies to research, data storage, data organization, electronic publishing and communications infrastructure
  • Ability to develop a team approach to learning and staffing
  • Experience and competencies in working in a multiracial, multicultural environment
