sessions, if necessary. Also start planning new projects.
Sample projects
Videos
Revisit the inquiry addressed in and content created for the photo essay. Make a short video using whatever digital recording equipment is available. For first-time video projects, the simpler the equipment, the better. Sony Digital Mavica Cameras can record short video clips with sound (up to 60 seconds). A standard, low-end 8mm digital or analog video camera can be used to make longer videos. Check our article on video production for a description of how to make a 30-second to 60-second "problem solution" video using a digital camera, a clip lamp and storyboarding.
Multimedia Presentations
Use the photo essay Web page content to make a multimedia presentation using HyperStudio, PowerPoint or a similar application. Begin by storyboarding each slide of the presentation. Have participants work in pairs to complete the slides. Record narration and other sounds on the slides. If the application can support imported HyperStudio, think of ways that short video clips or animations could be incorporated into the presentation. Have two or three participants work together to finalize the order and layout of the presentation.
Green Maps
Check the Green
Maps Web site for suggestions, templates and examples of how
to make customized maps that display the location and/or distribution
of resources within a neighborhood or across a community. For example,
where are health clinics and providers located versus where residents
and youth are located? What is the location of waste and hazardous
dump sites in comparison to the location of recreation areas for
youth and families? Maps can be made by hand or with software.
